Introduction

Explorateur - "The Explorer". The Barossa Valley is first and foremost famous for Shiraz above all other varieties, so it's a natural choice. These grapes are handpicked and given a French twist in their winemaking to deliver something outside of the norm.

Tasting Notes

Deep purple to crimson red in colour. Elegant and lively with rich aromas of blackberry, cherry and spice with hints of liquorice and oak filling out the nose. The palate is vibrant and balanced with soft fruit driven flavour initially with blackberries, plums and liquorice notes all combining on the creamy palate. This sparkling shiraz has an approachable full-flavoured mid palate, while the hint of tannin and its fresh lively finish makes this one of the most moreish wines we have created.

Winemaking

The vineyards that make up Explorateur are based in the North-Western Barossa Valley. This is a belt of land that runs from North West of Tanunda – Marananga, Greenock, Moppa, Ebenezer, and through to Stockwell, just north of Nuriootpa. Cropping levels are kept low to ensure the fruit flavour is focused. This Shiraz is created from a blend of vintages. Stainless steel vats were used for the primary fermentation, followed by extended barrel fermentation on lees to build complexity and richness. The parcels were blended followed by secondary fermentation which gives the wine its sparkle.
