Introduction

Etranger – literally translated to 'The Stranger' – is a wine that has been dubbed "an Australian version of French Pauillac" by Robert Parker, a world leading wine critic of international standing.

Tasting Notes

Deep black to purple in colour with crimson notes. This Cabernet Sauvignon has characters of blackcurrant and mulberry with hints of minty liquorice, which ensure this wine has a classic Cabernet nose and finishing with a delightful touch of new oak. The natural fruit flavours provide varietal notes of mulberry, plum and blackcurrant. There are eminent ripeness and dazzling rich liquorice, cedar and spice characters. Firm and fruity tannins provide the backbone, which is long and well fleshed out.

The Winemaking

Grapes were specifically sourced from the area around our favourite sub region of the Barossa Valley – Greenock. Its hard country with the shallow grey sandy soil over red clay produce small bunches of intense, non-herbaceous Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Cropping levels were low and much of the older vineyards were especially hand picked and selected by the winemaker for the high fruit intensity of the individual grapes. We used extreme cold maceration to extract as much natural fruit flavour as possible and used open top fermenters and hand plunge, keeping our old world winemaking philosophy front of mind during the entire process. This ensured only the finest wine were aged in barrels for 12 months prior to final blending and minimal filtration.
